Dos and Don’ts During Menstruation Cycle: What You Should Follow & Shouldn’t During Periods

Now I will be talking about the dos and don’ts of the menstrual cycle. As we know menstruation is something that we all have to handle throughout the reproductive age group. Now also know that there are many many myths that surround menstruation. important things are that you take care of your hygiene properly.

Don’ts

  • The first important thing is that you should not be using very fancy things on your genitalia.
  • We don’t need to take any medicated stuff. We don’t need to use any fancy feminine hygiene products either.
  • Make sure that you are not douching. Douching means that you use the jet inside the vagina because what that does is that it destroys the normal bacteria or the good bacteria in the vagina and that is going to cause infections.
  • Also, make sure that you don’t keep changing brands of Period Products too frequently. because sometimes there are allergies which can also happen at the same time.

  • There are sometimes things like dysmenorrhea or painful menstruation which is a possibility. Don’t delay taking medication for this painful period. Why do you have to endure pain?
  • Some women may have very heavy periods. sometimes the flow can even be less. But don’t get worried too much. don’t talk to other people too much and

then don’t say you know X and she has periods for so many days. I don’t have it for so many days or so and so there are periods that last for so many days. why don’t I have it? or Why is the flow not much? Flow is not that much? or Is too much?

  • You know every woman has a cycle that is variable and every woman has a cycle whose flow is also different. So if you notice that there is any change which is happening with regards to that, it’s always a good idea to meet with your doctor.

Dos

  • The most important thing is to keep yourself clean. just make sure that you just use only water and dab yourself dry.
  • Blood is an agent which is capable of causing infections. so hygiene has to be a very important part of the menstrual routine. make sure that every time you pass urinary stool, you’re cleaning yourself properly, and then you are just dabbing it dry.
  • Sanitary napkins may be used, some may even use tampons and nowadays of course we have menstrual cups as well. so make sure that you’re changing the sanitary napkins every four to six hours.
  • The same goes for tampons as well and menstrual cups also. during heavy times of the period, it should be changed about six-hourly or even four hourly.
  • Sometimes when it is less flow you can keep it for about eight to twelve hours as well. But make sure that you are changing it frequently so that there is no problem with infection.
  • Just make sure that you speak to your doctor and that she rules out any problems like cysts or endometriosis or many other problems. If it’s just painful periods you can easily use whatever you wish for this kind of period pain.
  • From the point of view of hygiene, sexual intercourse should not be done at this time. But if you’re comfortable with it, make sure that you’re using some form of barrier method like condoms.
  • Blood again is a medium that can cause infection and we don’t want sexually transmitted diseases (STD) being passed from one to the other.

So it’s okay to be a woman. It’s okay to have your periods. But make sure that you follow the do’s and don’ts and ensure that if there’s any problem at all during the menstrual cycle you do contact someone who knows a little more than google.
